The 2009 Fall Classic was the searing face-off many had hoped for — the defending World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies against the New York Yankees. Eighty-six years after opening the original Yankee Stadium in 1923 with their first World Series title, the Yankees celebrated their inaugural season in the new Yankee Stadium with a record 27th championship.
